Barcelona Chamber of Commerce Signs 4 Year Renewal

The Barcelona Chamber of Commerce renews its commitment as Strategic Partner to the MIT-Spain Program by signing an additional four year agreement. The focus of the 4-year project will be to promote business internationalization and visibility of the MIT-Spain Program in Spain with an emphasis on consolidating and furthering the links the Program has created with Catalonia. To this goal, MIT-Spain will award “La Cambra Fellowships” to MIT students who choose to work with entrepreneurs in Catalonia. Moreover, MIT-Spain will seek to organize events both at MIT and in Barcelona to bring the business and entrepreneurial community of MIT and Barcelona together.

MIT Emerging Technology Conference (EmTech) to be held in Spain

MIT’s EmTech Conference turns to Europe, chooses Spain and lands in Málaga to celebrate and showcase the world’s most potent emerging technologies in the first annual EmTech Spain conference. For two days, national and international business leaders, academics, technology specialists, investors and entrepreneurs will gather to discuss and analyze the future of emerging technologies and how they will change our day-to-day lives.

The conference will be held on October 26th & 27th 2011 at the Palacio de Ferias y Congresos of Málaga.

MIT-Spain partners are entitled to discounted registration fees. For more information contact mit-spain@mit.edu.

MIT-Spain matches more than 50 students annually with professional internships and research with leading companies, universities and research institutes in Spain. The program is open to all MIT undergrads, graduate students and recent MIT alumni. Here are testimonies from some of our host institutions:

Professor Elazer Edelman recognized by Ambassador of Spain

Elazer Edelman, Thomas D & Virginia W Cabot Professor at Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, has been recognized by Ambassador of Spain to the United States for “All the efforts that he has made to improve the scientific relations between Spain and MIT“. He was given the Officer’s Cross of Civil Merit. Professor Edelman is a member of the MIT-Spain Advisory Board.

Professor Edelman shared the honor of receiving the award with Dr. Enric Julià, Director of Institut Químic de Sarrià, where there has been a long standing relationship over the last decade. He also thanked Dr. Mercedes Balcells-Camps, Senior Research Scientist, for her work with the MIT-Spain Program which has allowed the flow of students and researchers between MIT and IQS.

MIT-Spain/La Cambra de Barcelona Seed Fund Grant Round now open!

Funded by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, the MIT-Spain/La Cambra de Barcelona Seed Fund encourages collaboration between the MIT community and companies, universities, and research laboratories in Spain.

Grants may be used to explore the potential for collective collaboration and technological transfer in a start-up phase. MIT-Spain welcomes proposals from all disciplines represented by the five schools at MIT: architecture and planning; engineering; humanities; arts and social sciences; management; and science.

The Spanish colleague(s) must be identified in the proposal. The maximum award is $20,000

Priority will be given to projects that:

propose a balanced exchange between the MIT and Spanish participants
demonstrate complementarity between the MIT and Spanish teams

The MIT-Spain/La Cambra de Barcelona Seed Fund is administered by the MISTI Global Seed Funds. All general MISTI Global Seed Funds criteria, application and evaluations procedures apply.
